AMANI WOMEN CENTER CELEBRATES WORLD REFUGEE DAY!
WHAT WE DO
Amani Sewing Academy exists to enhance the lives of Clarkston refugee women through social interaction, where English language, sewing and sewing business skills are shared. At the successful completion of the sewing program, participants are awarded a certificate of completion and a new sewing machine. Jobs referrals and application assistance is offered to graduates as jobs become available. We do this to bring encouragement to their lives by creating marketable skills to earn income for their families.
A refugee is someone who fled his or her home and country owing to “a well-founded fear of persecution because of his/her race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion”, according to the United Nations 1951 Refugee Convention. Many refugees are in exile to escape the effects of natural or human-made disasters. Amani Women Center celebrates WORLD REFUGEE DAY!
The Mission of Amani Women Center is to educate and empower refugee women with culturally sensitive tools that contributes to their workforce development and overall wellbeing. To that end, AWC's holistic approach is to cater to the wellbeing of the community through a variety of hands on programs sensitively tailored to specific needs.
